Interview with:
Amber Pagano of ActivatedWellness
When and why did you start your business?
I started Activated Wellness in 2020 because I wanted to start branding my personal training to be something more than just fitness. I kept telling my clients about how they need to activate their muscles and activate their cells through the power of a movement practice, proper nutrition, and connecting to a higher power or having some sort of spiritual practice in place. And that is how ActivatedWellness was born.
What's your story?
I started working at the local gym in my hometown of Sag Harbor when I was 15, I worked the front desk and learned the ins and outs of the back end system while working with the customer service side of things. I worked there for about 5 or so years while also working intermittently as front desk staff for a well known cycle company in East Hampton, Watermill, and occasionally Bridgehampton. When I completed High School, I went to Community College because I wasn't sure on what exactly it was I wanted to do with my life. At this time I became an EMT-B and volunteered for the Sag Harbor Ambulance for four years. I thought I wanted to become a nurse so I was going to apply to nursing schools after finishing my two years at community college. Then things took a turn, I had this calling to want to help people in a more holistic way. I did an online nutrition course through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and became an IIN Health Coach. I also became a spin instructor and small group fitness instructor. I taught classes for about 2 years and then decided I wanted to learn more about the human body because people in my classes had injuries or were getting injuries from the work that we were doing. I wasn't sure how to help people be pain free but it was my mission to find a way to help people work out safely and by preventing injuries. A few years later and I started to work a private gym in Bridgehampton and this is where my career took off. I became a certified functional strength coach, FMS-1 certified, Precision Nutrition certified, Girls Gone Strong certified, and I even went to school to become a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist. I learned the ins and outs of the human body, I studied the way it moves, and how to properly care for your body in the best way possible. The end result is that movement is medicine, food is medicine, and we have to take routine care of our bodies with movement and nutrition. It is never too late to start!
What do you offer?
I offer private personal training sessions, small group fitness classes, massage therapy, and meditation/breathwork classes.
What else do you want people to know?
I train the body in a whole-listic, whole-body approach. If there is an instability within the body, I make sure to check up or down the chain to make sure everything is functioning properly. Small group fitness classes are limited to only 5 people per group to give a private one on one feel with me as your instructor. You can sign up for classes on our app which is in the App Store or Google Play Store under Activated Wellness. You can also subscribe to our emails and follow us on instagram where we post all of our studio updates, class times, and wellness events that are happening in the studio.
