Interview with:
North Fork Meditation
When and why did you start your organization?
We had our first class in our new space this past January (2023), but we have actually been hosting meditation workshops and series at various venues on the North Fork for the past 5-10 years.
Living in the community, we have noticed a strong interest in meditation practice. It became clear that there were an increasing amount people who had the intention and interest in prioritizing their mental well being through meditation. Understanding this, we wanted to offer a space where they can consistently receive teachings from a variety of experienced practitioners, shape their personal meditation routine and have open discussions about their personal journey.
The purpose of this space is to benefit others by offering practical buddhist teachings and methods for developing a truly peaceful and compassionate mind. We want the community to feel like the North Fork Meditation space is as much theirs as it is ours.
What do you offer?
As of now, we offer weekly meditation classes on Friday evening (6-7pm) and Sunday mornings (11am-12:30pm). Each class consists of a guided meditation, teaching and discussion. We will also be hosting meditation classes at a few surrounding hotels and venues next month.
We use Buddha’s teachings in an accessible manner to help those who wish to integrate a consistent and structured meditation practice into their daily life. The classes are also beneficial to those who just want to drop in and learn the basics of simple breathing meditation. Everyone is welcome!
