When and why did you start your business?
I started in 2017 - I have always been working in retail; mostly corporate high-end, and always wanted to open a store of my own, literally ever since I can remember.
What's your story?
Growing up in Southampton I always wished that there had been a store like mine, a place where everyone could go and shop - that no matter your social or economic status you could always leave with something that you would just love! So it had always been a dream of mine but I guess I put that dream away in a little box for a while and went to college. I had actually studied Criminal Justice - I wanted to become a social worker, but as I worked through school bouncing around to several different retail businesses, I started to question what I was doing spending so much money on something I wasn't so sure what the right move for me. Ultimately I gained so much knowledge, and experience and grew in the retail profession - I just excelled so much - that I decided to stop pursuing Criminal Justice. Although I am still a HUGE dateline, First 48 and all those other crime junkie shows fanatic! So I reopened that box that I had put on the shelf for so long thinking I could no way open my own store I mean I didn't even know where to start and it all just sounded so overwhelming and scary! But slowly I began telling myself that I could do it, I actually could be in retail and have my own store. So with the support of my family and friends, I began to look for retail rental properties, in different towns until one year while working in Greenport Village, I saw this space available. It definitely needed a lot of love but I could see the potential of the space! After that, I feel like I had pushed the snowball down the mountain and everything just got bigger, picked up momentum, and grew! So now I'm here!! Six years later and so happy!
What do you offer?
So much! haha We offer a lot here in the shop! Like I mentioned before it was super important to me to make sure there was something for everyone. From 90's style woven bracelets for $6 to high-end dresses retailing at $300! Although some of the clothes are a little more pricey. We often get pushback but I think it is really important to understand I stand by the brands that we offer here in the shop. Slow fashion, craftsmanship, and quality pieces. But with that being said I have other companies too!! Just as great and passionate about the merchandise they put out but that is more wallet-friendly. I think it's important to not pigeonhole myself into one "thing" we only carry this or that. So there are clothes here, jewelry, bags, candles, plants, and unique fun home decor. And let us not forget about the MVP our loose organic tea!! But there is definitely so much more and really like without coming into the store physically there is no way to even start to name it all !! A real lifestyle boutique.
What else do you want people to know?
I guess I just want people to know we are here! I know after six years that’s crazy to say and we have such a good relationship with our clients that come in but every day we hear "Oh did you just open this year?!" or "I've been coming to Greenport for years I can't believe I have never been in your store!!" I mean at the end of the day that’s it most likely going to happen the rest of the time we are in the village but just for people to know we are here. Come in! Not just to buy something but check us out say hi, pet our little shop puppy Bean and spread the word. I have advertised in the past but good ole word of mouth is still, in my opinion, the best kind of marketing and PR.
