Interview with:

Nicole Petti of Urban Coyote Farm

When and why did you start your business?

Urban Coyote Farm was officially born in January 2023.

I have been dreaming of starting my business since 2016. I moved to Austin, Texas to work at Joe’s Organics—a zero waste farm specializing in compost hauling, compost production, microgreens and salad greens.  I learned so much while I was there from how to grow to how to run a business. Joe Diffie is an amazing mentor, and attracts such talented and knowledgeable employees to learn from. I also got captivated and inspired by the resiliency of urban coyotes living within the city limits—hence my farm name. Since I moved back to Long Island in 2019, I knew I wanted to start the business. It was a process that involved buying a house and converting my garage to a grow space. I launched in January of 2023 and started up at East End Food Market in Riverhead that February.

What's your story?

Urban Coyote Farm aims to nourish Long Islanders by making microgreens a household staple. Microgreens are an easy way to add a punch of flavor, nutrition & delight to all of your meals.  We believe that incorporating this super food into your diet can the kickstart all sorts of healthy changes in your life.

Our business operates out of a converted two-car garage in Wading River. It is inspired by the adaptability and resilience of the urban coyote.  We aim to innovate, build suburban food systems, and create an all around healthier environment for our community.

What do you offer?

I specialize in freshly harvested, double washed microgreens. I also have started a line of value added microgreens products including grow kits and a pea shoot pesto. More products to come down the road.

Microgreens include: pea shoots, leek micro greens, broccoli, scallion, sunflower, cilantro, radish, micro green mixes and more.
